Can you imagine 9-1-1 without Eddie?!
During the midseason finale of the ABC series that aired on Thursday (November 21), viewers saw as Ryan Guzman‘s character planned to relocate to El Paso to be with his son Christopher (Gavin McHugh).
In a new interview, 9-1-1 co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear opened up about the storyline and addressed the possibility of Eddie really the show.

“Obviously, it’s kind of from Buck’s point of view,” he added, referring to Oliver Stark‘s character discovering Eddie’s plans to move, going through shock, before ultimately helping his friend look for a home in Texas. “I think you see multiple layers of it in Oliver’s performance.”
“Immediately [Buck] does exactly what he should do, which is not question or berate or accuse,” Minear explained. “He understands and he knows how important Christopher is to Eddie, so you see him being supportive. But as soon as Eddie turns his back, you see that his heart goes into his stomach. So does Buck like to spiral? He’s going to be spinning like a top when we come back.”
Minear went on to tease that Buck isn’t the only one that will be affected by Eddie’s potential move.
“Just the idea that Eddie may need to go be with his kid is going to have so many reverberations in the 118 world. The chaos kind of writes itself… Well, unfortunately it doesn’t write itself. I’m going to have to,” Minear said, noting that he’s still working on the rest of season 8.
“But I just think it feels like a real story that’s earned,” he added of Eddie’s situation. “It’s not just like ‘somebody got shot.’ It’s not some incredibly catastrophic thing that is a plot device. It’s characters acting based on their character and based on the situations that we’ve built over a short period of time.”
Minear also promised “big movement for all the characters by the end of episode 10.”
When the show returns, “we’re going to hit the ground running and we’re going to hit the ground really hard,” he added. “No one will be spared chaos.”
9-1-1 returns on March 6, 2025.
If you didn’t see, there has been some recent 9-1-1 cast news. One cast member exited the show earlier this month, and another might be joining from another series!
