Harry Hamlin Celebrates One Year of Sobriety: 'I'm Very Happy'

Harry Hamlin is celebrating one year of sobriety.

During the Friday (August 15) episode of his podcast Let’s Not Talk About the Husband, which he hosts with wife Lisa Rinna, the 73-year-old Mayfair Witches actor revealed that he hasn’t had a drink of alcohol in over a year.

Keep reading to find out more…The topic came up when Lisa, 62, poked fun at Harry for frequently wearing the same pair of pants.

Harry explained that he’s “lost a considerable amount of weight” recently because of intermittent fasting and sobriety.

“It was not difficult for me at all,” Harry said of giving up alcohol. “I’m very happy [not drinking]. I was always tempted to have a glass of wine in the evening, have some liquor to go to sleep.”

Harry went on to that he’s stopped drinking “many times” over the years, including when he and Lisa first met and for four years in the 2010s when they were being sued by their landlords. At that time, he initially gave up alcohol on his own, but later joined Alcoholic Anonymous for additional support.

“Everybody should do the program,” Harry said. “One of the greatest gifts that I ever got was doing that for that four-year period.”

The Clash of the Titans actor also explained that he was still taking Ambien during that time, which he believes contributed to his issues.

“For me, Ambien is like a deadly drug,” Harry said, adding that he attended 90 AA meetings in 90 days. “It’s a whole new world when you don’t use anything to numb yourself out.”

Harry also noted that his two brothers were alcoholics and both died from complications related to drinking and smoking, so he likes to stay on top of his won alcohol usage.

“It is what it is. It’s not that big a deal in my life, by the way,” the Emmy-nominated actor said. “For a lot of people, stopping drinking is a huge deal. For me, it’s something I’m happy about doing.”

Several other stars have also talked about their decision to get sober.
