Nooses & Swastikas Won't Be Classified as Hate Symbols By Coast Guard Anymore (Report)

A surprising new report has emerged about hate symbols and the United States Coast Guard.

The Washington Post is reporting, “The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, an emblem of fascism and white supremacy inextricably linked to the murder of millions of Jews and that more than 400,000 U.S. troops who died fighting against in World War II, as a hate symbol, according to a new policy that takes effect next month. Instead, the Coast Guard will classify the Nazi-era insignia as ‘potentially divisive’ under its new guidelines.” In addition, the policy “similarly downgrades the definition of nooses and the Confederate flag,” though the Confederate flag will apparently still be banned.

A Coast Guard official spoke with the publication, saying, “We don’t deserve the trust of the nation if we’re unclear about the divisiveness of swastikas.”

Apparently, these new guidelines will also limit how much time a service person will have to report an incident. Prior, there was not a time limit but now, they will allegedly have 45 days.

“If you are at sea, and your shipmate has a swastika in their rack, and you are a Black person or Jew, and you are going to be stuck at sea with them for the next 60 days, are you going to feel safe reporting that up your chain of command?” the same official added.

Apparently, new guidelines will go into effect on December 15.
