Girls is returning to HBO!
Lena Dunham is bringing the original cast of her comedy series back together for a limited five-episode run, with production beginning in 2027.
The creator and star of the show announced the news in a cute new video alongside fellow returning stars Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, and Andrew Rannells.
The video features Lena asking her co-stars if they’re interested in spending a summer together to make the new episodes.
At the end, Lena ponders, “Can we still call it Girls because we’re like old as ****?”
TheWrap notes that while Judd Apatow is returning as an executive producer, the show’s former co-showrunner and executive producer Jenni Konner is not coming back. Just months ago, Lena opened up about her falling out with Jenni.

“We always said we would only return to ‘Girls’ if there was a specific story we were burning to tell. I’ve missed these characters, but for a long time I couldn’t quite picture them in the present day,” Lena said in a statement.
She continued, “Then, right around my fortieth birthday, they started talking to me in the shower. And, as you may remember, once this fivesome starts talking it’s pretty hard to get them to stop. It’s rare that you get the chance to return to something that changed your life with the gift of hindsight and a whole new level of gratitude and understanding. I love these girls (and boy), our friends at HBO, and all the people who have continued to discover the show and remind us afresh why we do this, which is the joy of being together… and the chance to wear yellow mesh…”
Girls ran for six seasons on HBO, from 2012 to 2017. The new episodes will be filmed 10 years later!
Lena recently shared a huge update about her personal life.
