Val Chmerkovskiy will sit out from tonight’s episode of Dancing with the Stars after receiving a one-week suspension.
New details have emerged about why Val was benched this week. The initial announcement came after he posted, then deleted, a TikTok status responding to Carrie Ann Inaba‘s criticism of his wife, fellow professional dancer Jenna Johnson, during the October 13 episode.
In the post, Val referenced the infamous 2022 Oscars moment when Will Smith went on stage and slapped Chris Rock. He wrote that people “almost saw Fresh Prince enter the ballroom.”
Val has since publicly apologized to Carrie Ann in a statement and said he reached out to her privately.
Former DWTS pro Gleb Savchenko recently revealed if he is on Val or Carrie Ann‘s side—read what he said here.
According to a new report by People, Val‘s suspension stemmed from his post, and not because of an HR complaint filed by Carrie Ann, as some have reported.
Why was Val suspended from Dancing with the Stars?
His apology prompted an investigation by DWTS producer BBC Studios.
BBC Studios released a statement about the post, saying it was “inappropriate and does not reflect the values or standards expected of anyone connected with the show.”
“The well-being of everyone who works on Dancing with the Stars is non-negotiable,” the statement continued. “As a result, he will not participate” in tonight’s show.
Who is Jenna Dewan dancing with tonight?
Val‘s partner, Jenna Dewan, has been paired with eliminated pro Alan Bersten for the Tuesday, October 20 episode. They will perform a Viennese waltz for Dedication Night.
