Law & Order: SVU is gaining a new cast member.
When Does Law & Order: SVU Season 28 Premiere?
Season 28 of the long-running NBC procedural debuts on Thursday, October 8 (9 p.m. ET), and there’s at least one new face joining the series: J. Smith-Cameron.
Who Is J. Smith-Cameron Playing on Law & Order: SVU?
The 68-year-old Succession actress will join in a recurring role as a jury consultant named Gwen Sharpe, who will debut in the season premiere, according to TVLine.
The role was initially conceived as someone who would cross paths with Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) during jury selection, but the showrunner realized the character could provide a new opportunity.
How Will Gwen Sharpe Connect With Olivia Benson?
“The problem with Benson is she’s the boss, so at a certain point you can’t go to your subordinates, the people who work for you, and talk about how disillusioned you are,” Michele Fazekas told the outlet. “That’s not good management skills.”
Gwen will act as “a nice sort of sounding board for her, and somebody that she can talk to.”
“At a certain point, no one’s gonna teach Benson much of anything. Benson has been doing this for a long time, but you do want somebody who has a different perspective,” she continued.
She will appear “at least three times, if not more” during Season 28, the showrunner added.
